After some research for a Dual Sim smartphone - the Acer Liquid E2 Duo seemed to be a good candidate. Here's an impression of this remarkable smartphone released in 2013.
Acer Liquid E2 Duo Smartphone
Overland travel comes with many prepaid simcards to keep voice calls and internet access affordable. With one world simcard and a local simcard, carrying two phones is simply too much hassle. Next to this a pocket internet terminal for quick browsing and navigation in the streets of any city comes in very handy.
The solution, a Dual Sim Smartphone for voice calls and internet access over WIFI and Cellular Internet.
Primary choice was a Samsung Galaxy Duos smartphone (i9502, i9508) but 2013 & 2014 reviews during dual simcard use were bad. The Android software on the Samsung Galaxy crashes occasionally when used with automatic roaming. For travel in foreign countries this is an absolute showstopper.
So the Acer Liquid E2 Duo (V370) became the prime candidate, with the following features;
- Normal simcard, so no roadside cutting of simcards to nano or micro size
- 32 Gb micro sdcard slot for storage of apps and pictures
- Large 2000 mAh battery - easy to replace
- Camera with flash
Reviews of the Acer Liquid E2 are pretty good, although the phone is relatively unknown.
The results after a few days of road-side testing were pretty good. The phone battery lasts for 2 days with reasonable connectivity roaming WIFI hotspots and 3G internet providers.
The Acer Liquid E2 Duo can handle 1 active 3G cellular internet connection. The second simcard can only be used for Voice and SMS Text messaging.
Other features are;
- Bluetooth 3.0
- GPS / AGPS
- 8 Mpixels and 2 Mpixel face camera
- Two DTS audio speakers, perfect in noisy environment like truck
- Large crisp display
- Easy to remove backside cover
