Most laptop batteries contain multiple Lithium Ion battery cells. Most battery cells come from the same production process or even from the same batch. Though differences between battery cells can occur through material impurities or variations in the production process reducing capacity.

A single battery cell can cause a drop in total battery capacity – affecting other battery cells and soaking up their capacity. Even up to the extend a laptop battery suddenly goes dead. Opening the battery package may result in finding less depleted battery cells among a single bad battery cell.
