Laptop Backups - Information Reincarnation

Reducing data loss risks

Making regular data backups and traveling the globe are two activities that don't mix really well. Traveling itself is simply too dominant - data backups easily become a forgotten / postponed activity till disaster strikes.

Successfully anticipating data loss and unmanageable system configurations in "normal" situations already is a burden.  Practical solutions for laptop travelers are non-existent. How to backup a few Gb of crucial data quickly? No time to sort out what's important or not - and where to safely store a few Gb without loosing track of it AND to have access when it's desperately needed? This goes far beyond a casual keychain USB stick.

The painful significance of recent backups manifests itself when a laptop is lost or when that hard disk crash simply happens. A few weeks travel time can easily amount to a few 100 Mb of pictures, not to mention the GigaByte's of pictures of several years worth of traveling. Irreplaceable!

Here you find a few backup schemes anticipating on the risks that come with traveling. In any case, there is no such thing as the perfect travel backup scheme - in the end it's all about taking risks and a bit of luck.
